About Evan
Full Stack Developer
I am Second generation child born and raised in south Florida from Colombian descent. From a young age I grew up around computer technology, thanks to my uncle persuing a IT degree. The time I spent with my uncle exposed me to the world of computer technology. I remember watching him create local networks with Cat5 cables going across the room to multiple computers.
My curiosity ran wild and my fascination for technology was born. High school is where I learned HTML and used the markup language to personlize myspace profiles for friends and family. College is where I learned about OOP and functional programming paradims using Java, Python, JavaScript. This created a solid foundation and understanding to qualify me for a seat in Ironhack Miami summer cohert for Full Stack Development. There my imagination ran wild with possibilities for my future in Tech. I was rubbing elbows with great minds from Ivy league schools like Harvard. Meeting people with these same goals from all over the United States was exciting and a pleasure. That whole experience introduced me to my first run in with imposter syndrome. But I managed to build up the courage and drive to dive deeper into the vast ocean of software development. Learning these concepts was very humbling at times, but the challenge excited me and my grit kept me going. I was eager to to reprogram my mind to understand and apply these complex concepts at a rapid pace to achieve my goal of graduating from Ironhack. Once I grasped understanding of the technologies I felt great joy, I felt fulfilled, I felt proud.
Ironhack gave me the tools and guidance needed to add new skills like MongoDB, Express.js, Angular and Node.js. With this stack I created projects that accessed public APIs, created databases for my applications and connected them to the front-end. I Styled my applications using Bootstrap which was also new technology for me. After graduating from Ironhack I was hired at Chen Medical as a Full Stack developer. Here I experienced the agile methodology, test driven development using a new tech stack. I will name a few technologies I was exposed to an enterprise level, ReactJS, Redux, NextJS, Java, Jira, Spring, ES6 JavaScript. Being the only junior software engineer at Chen Medical was a challenge in itself, let alone learn a whole new stack. At Chen Medical I attended many code reviews with the team lead and Archetict, Daily stand up meetings. My tasks ranged from front-end development to full stack development tickets. I wrote and published documentation using Jira. Finally I started a reusable component library using ReactJS components for Chen Medical's in-house EMR software. Learned to develope test cases for React components for all my code using Jest.js.
